Fix My Image

Pick where it is going. Drop the image. Get the exact fix for each problem.

The page reads the file itself: the real format from its bytes, the pixel size, the shape, the file size, any GPS location and any transparency, and checks them against the numbers our own platform pages state. Every problem links straight to the tool that fixes it and carries the image along. Nothing is uploaded.

How to fix an image for where it is going

      1. Pick where it is going

Choose the platform or form the image is for. You can switch at any time and the checks run again on the same file.

      2. Drop the image

Any file: the format is read from its bytes, so a HEIC renamed to .jpg is still caught. Nothing is uploaded.

      3. Read what is wrong

Every problem says what was measured, the number it was measured against and which ThumbCrafted page that number comes from.

      4. Tap the fix

Each problem links to the one tool that fixes it, and carries your image there so you do not pick the file again.

Every rule, and the page it comes from

Upload limits are the most repeated numbers on the web and the most often wrong. So this page has no numbers of its own. Each rule below is taken from a ThumbCrafted page that states it, and where that page's checker uses a tolerance in its code, the same tolerance is used here. A number that is not on one of our pages is not checked.

      Fix My Image Questions

      Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read from your device into memory, its bytes are checked by JavaScript in this page, and the picture is decoded by your browser. The line under the upload box counts the bytes of request body that leave the page while you work. A fix button hands the image to the next ThumbCrafted tool through your browser's own storage, not over the network.
Where do the rules come from?
From ThumbCrafted's own checker and guide pages, never from a number made up for this page. Each problem names the page its rule comes from, and the table above lists every rule with its source. When a platform's figure on one of those pages changes, it changes here too.
Why is Discord not a target?
None of our pages states a Discord avatar or attachment spec yet, and this page only checks numbers another ThumbCrafted page already states. Discord shows link previews from the same 1200 by 630 share image as the others, which the Facebook link preview target checks.
How does it know the real format?
It reads the first bytes of the file, the signature every format starts with, rather than trusting the file name. A photo renamed from .heic to .jpg is still reported as HEIC, because that is what an upload form will receive.
Why does a WebP get a caution for YouTube?
Our YouTube thumbnail checker gives WebP and GIF a caution because YouTube's help page names JPG and PNG. That is not the same as saying they fail, so it is a caution, with a converter one tap away.
It found GPS coordinates. Is that a problem for the platform?
Not for the upload itself. It is a privacy problem: the coordinates point to where the photo was taken, and anyone who gets the original file can read them. Remove EXIF Data strips them without re-compressing the picture.
Does a fix button change my file?
No. It sends a copy to the tool that fixes that problem, where you make the change and download the new file. Your original is never touched.
      What are the limits?
Files up to 100 MB. There is no pixel limit in the code beyond what your browser can decode. HEIC opens without decoding: its pixel size is read from the file. The tools behind the fix buttons have their own limits, and when your file is over one of them the button says so: 15 MB for crop and compress, 20 MB for resize and convert, 25 MB for compress to size, 40 MB for HEIC to JPG, 50 MB for the Shorts checker.
