Pull any YouTube video's thumbnail in seconds. Paste a watch URL, Shorts URL, embed URL, or just the video ID. Free, fast, runs entirely in your browser.
How to grab a YouTube thumbnail
Copy the URL from YouTube's address bar or the share button. Any format works — watch, youtu.be short link, Shorts, embed, or just the raw video ID.
Paste and click Grab. The tool probes every thumbnail size YouTube generated for that video.
Pick max-res or any standard size from the results. Click Download to save, or Open in Editor to load it into the ThumbCrafted editor.
Why use ThumbCrafted's grabber
Every available size. Max-res 1280x720, standard 640x480, high 480x360, medium 320x180, small 120x90, plus the WebP variant.
Auto-frames included. YouTube generates three preview frames at ~25%, ~50%, and ~75% into the video. We pull those too in case the main thumbnail doesn't fit your needs.
Open in editor with one click. Skip the download-then-upload step. The thumbnail loads straight into our free editor.
100% private. Thumbnails fetch from YouTube's public CDN. Nothing ever uploads to our servers.
Frequently asked
Does it work for YouTube Shorts?
Yes. Shorts URLs (youtube.com/shorts/ID) work the same as regular video URLs. The same thumbnail sizes are available.
What if the video is private or unlisted?
Private videos won't return any thumbnails. Unlisted videos work if you have the URL. Removed and copyright-struck videos return no thumbnails.
What's the difference between this and a downloader?
Same tool, different vocabulary. Some people search for "YouTube thumbnail grabber," others search for "downloader." Both pages route to the same multi-size pull. Pick whichever felt natural to type.
Can I batch-grab multiple videos?
Not yet. One URL at a time for now. If you find yourself doing this often, drop us a feature request.
